Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral Wedding | Adriana + Jake

CLASSIC FALL WEDDING DAY

Adriana and Jake were married last weekend at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Houston, Texas. This was such a special wedding to photograph because Adriana and I grew up going to church together, and our parents are lifelong friends as well! It was an honor capturing and celebrating Adriana’s marriage to Jake and seeing how happy they make each other! From the meaningful ceremony to the energetic Greek dancing at the reception, it was an incredible day from beginning to end.

Adriana and her bridesmaids spent the morning in the bridal suite getting their hair and makeup done. Everyone had smiles on their faces when I arrived, so I knew it was going to be a joyful wedding day from the start! Before Adriana put her dress on, her koumbara Lauran, presented her with the wedding crowns that would be used in the ceremony. In a Greek Orthodox wedding, a koumbara is one of the bride’s attendants who serves as a sponsor for the wedding. During the ceremony, she is in charge of placing the wedding rings on the couple’s fingers and exchanging the wedding crowns, the stephana, three times. (We love photographing Greek Orthodox weddings and like to sprinkle in some fun facts about the service for readers who are unfamiliar!)

Shortly afterwards, Adriana’s mom and sister helped her into her dress, and she looked SO stunning in her lace gown! We had fun taking bridal party and family portraits outside of the church before it was time to line up for the ceremony.

GREEK ORTHODOX WEDDING CEREMONY

The ceremony took place in the newly renovated Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral. When it was time for Adriana’s dad to walk her down the aisle, I don’t think there was a dry eye in the church! It was a beautiful ceremony rich with tradition. The newlyweds had huge smiles on their faces as they walked down the aisle hand-in-hand at the end of the ceremony!

The reception was was filled with great food and lots of Greek dancing! There was even an indoor area set up with games such as Connect Four and Corn Hole because Adriana and Jake love playing games together. Jake’s groom cake was even game themed! Flash forward to the toasts, and Jake’s Best Man confessed that Jake has over 100 games at home- haha! After a fun evening, Adriana and Jake made their way to the Rolls Royce getaway car as their guests blew bubbles.

Congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs. Stanley! We loved being a part of your wedding day and can’t wait to see what the future holds for you two!
